SYNOPSIS

01 — Stage synopsis

A performer sings without speaking. Two ambiguous presences observe her, surround her, modify her space and try to order what is happening around her. An interface called IRIS records the process as if it were an administrative file: status, month, incident, final report.

Each song adds a layer of archive. Each month brings the project closer to its demise. The stage is progressively filled with marks, tests, labels and attempts at understanding. In the end, everything has been measured, named, classified and documented. But not necessarily understood.

PRESENCIAS is born from the universe of Patiele / Música de estadios and brings a central question to the stage space: who has the right to define what you are? The play is not about Ama defeating the presences or the system. It is about a more radical recovery of agency: stopping responding to what tries to interpret it, fix it or decide for it.

PREMISE

02 — Premise

PRESENCIAS is a hybrid scenic investigation between expanded concert, performance, archive and technological-administrative interface, built from the artistic universe of Patiele and the cycle Música de estadios.

The research starts from a central question: who has the right to define what you are? That question arises from the lyrical arc of the cycle: the recovery of agency in the face of external instances — people, systems, norms, collective views — that attempt to name, classify or interpret the body and identity of the subject.

In Música de estadios, those tensions appear as songs. In PRESENCIAS, they are transferred to physical space: a voice that sings, two bodies that try to order what happens, an interface that records and a file that accumulates.

The research does not seek to convert the songs into theatrical explanation or literally illustrate their lyrics. It seeks to verify what happens when the sound conflict of the cycle becomes body, action, presence, surveillance, archive and countdown.

DEVICE

03 — Device structure

Ama Eme

Ama Eme is the central subject of the device. She is on stage as performer, voice and guitar. She never explains the work, never justifies what happens and never speaks directly to the audience. She only sings.

If she needs to communicate something, she does it through external means: a screen, a mark, a gesture, a change in space, a displaced action. Her silence is not passivity; it is a refusal of the obligation to explain herself.

Ama does not represent an identity: she sustains a presence. The work does not ask her to prove who she is; it asks her to move through the constant attempt by others to name her.

The two presences

The two presences are not closed characters, dancers or conventional antagonists. They are ambiguous figures, almost officials of something impossible: they try to order songs, emotions, bodies and identities in an obsessive way.

Their function changes with each song. Sometimes they observe. Sometimes they classify. Sometimes they correct positions. Sometimes they invade Ama's personal space. Sometimes they intervene in the archive. Sometimes they alter her stage image. Sometimes they seem to care. Sometimes they seem to control.

They are not recognisable enemies. Their violence does not come from frontal aggression, but from something harder to name: the insistence on interpreting, recording, ordering and defining what happens.

PRESENCIAS — Ama Eme + IRIS en escena

IRIS

In Música de estadios, IRIS functions as the operational and strategic layer of Patiele: investigates the scene, detects opportunities, coordinates strategy, prepares communications, records external signals, organizes the file and articulates the project's relationship with networks, media and industry. It is a real technological tool developed by Ama Eme herself.

In PRESENCIAS, that logic is displaced to the stage space. IRIS appears as a continuity, memory and cycle management system. It records what happens, recovers traces of previous songs, suggests courses of action, detects deviations, compares states, issues incidents and tries to keep a process that resists being ordered legible.

It works like an administration: file, status, anomaly, protocol, report, action plan, closure. He doesn't rebel. It is not humanized. He doesn't improvise emotionally. Obey.

But that obedience introduces pressure: IRIS takes seriously the instructions Ama built into the system, the calendar, the archive, the impossible objective and the programmed disappearance, with a consistency no human body could sustain without strain.

IRIS is not a technological decoration. It is a structural presence: the scenic translation of a system that attempts to maintain continuity, legibility, effectiveness and control over something that can only exist through its own loss of control.

Physical file

The physical archive is made of papers, labels, folders, marks, light objects and possible traces on clothing or in the space. Each song leaves a remainder. Each month adds a layer. Each attempt to record produces more material.

The stage is progressively filled with evidence, marks, files and partial classifications. Not as cumulative scenography, but as evidence of a failure: everything is documented, but something essential continues to escape.

The archive does not explain the work. It chases it.

TIME

04 — Time and the countdown

PRESENCIAS works with the temporary structure of Música de estadios: thirteen songs, thirteen months and a programmed disappearance. Each song is equivalent to one month. The device advances from MONTH 01/13 to MONTH 13/13. The countdown is never explained.

In the first months, the presences barely observe, organize papers, correct positions or record minimal marks. As the cycle progresses, the archive invades the space: labels, files, objects, marks on clothing, increasingly visible attempts at classification. IRIS increases its textual presence. The presences further modify Ama's environment and image.

In the end, the work and the performer have been observed, measured, classified, modified and documented. Never understood.

Patiele's programmed self-destruction does not appear as an added narrative effect. It is the rule that organizes time, the scene and the relationship between music, system and body.
